Womancation - Day 4

Day 4 - Bar Harbor, ME Plymouth, MA Falmouth, MA

The sunrise...it's not something I've seen a whole lot of in my day. I'm more of a sunset kind of girl. In part because I'm not much of a morning person. But not even I could pass up an opportunity to see the sun's first rays in the US. So at 4 AM, I dragged myself out of bed to see the magic happen at 4:52 AM from Cadillac Mountain. (I know, who knew such an hour existed...?)

After our very early morning adventures, we were back on the road. First stop, Freeport, ME to see the Flagship LL Bean store and some other outlet stores, then it was off to Kennebunkport, ME. Kennebunkport turned out to be a favorite stop on the trip. It is a cute New England waterfront town that also happens to be home to the Bush family's summer home and St Anne's Church. St. Anne's Church is a gorgeous seaside chapel the the Bush family still attends.

And the home out on the peninsula belongs to George H.W. and Barbara Bush. You might think a home belonging to a former president that has been out of office for 18 wouldn't draw a huge crowd. That's what I thought anyway...but I was wrong. If you didn't know better, you might think William and Catherine were there. They weren't.

Back into Massachusetts, we stopped off in Plymouth. This is a replica of the Mayflower.

Plymouth is also the home of the famed Plymouth Rock which is allegedly where the pilgrims first arrived in what is now the U.S. The validity of such a claim is pretty unlikely but they went to the trouble of carving "1620" in it and putting a monument around it so we dutifully went and took pictures. :)

Plymouth Plantation hosts reenactment "first Thanksgiving" dinners. We didn't get there in time for the show but we wandered around was was still open on the grounds.

Next stop, Falmouth, MA.
