Womancation - Day 3

Day 3 - Bar Harbor, ME, Acadia National Park

When we first decided to go to New England for Womancation this year, Acadia National Park was always our #1 destination. As the summer home to some of the most wealthy U.S. families in the early 1900's, we knew the views would be gorgeous. (John D. Rockefeller financed and designed the network of carriage roads that still exist throughout the park.) So after a few grey skies and showers in the morning, we were happy when the sun came out and gave us such a beautiful day in the park.

When I think of Maine, this is what I think of. The deep blue Atlantic Ocean crashing up against the rocks. So. Pretty.

And here's another postcard shot, with Sand Beach in the distance.

There are numerous hikes throughout the park of varying degrees of difficulty. We ventured up a couple (of the short/easy ones) and were rewarded with views such as this at the top of Gorham Trail.

Thunder Hole. Who named this? I won't even venture a comment on the humor of the name... but the reason behind the name is when the tide comes in and crashes against the rocks in this little cave, it sounds like thunder. It's hard to see the cave behind me but I promise, it's there.

And what trip to Maine is complete without a lighthouse or two? This is Bass Harbor Lighthouse.

This is the view of Jordan Pond from Jordan Pond House, the only restaurant in the park. We had dinner there that evening and watched the sun set from our table. The poppers were delish, as was the rest of the meal. I think it was unanimously our favorite meal of the trip. (Yes, better than the lobster.)
