While I do not belong to a religion that recognizes Lent, several years ago I decided there was something emotional/spiritual to be gained from a 40 day period of some kind of self-restraint or discipline. I don't do new years resolutions. They feel too daunting to me and (in my humble opinion) set a person up for a truly depressing start to a new year because let's be honest, by Jan 8th many resolutions are abandoned. Lent - a shorter period of dedication to resolutions feels so much more manageable and provides the opportunity to actually feel like you've accomplished something. Plus it occurs at a much more convenient time of year for me (and isn't that what devotion and self-improvement is all about - my convenience?). You won't find me in church today and I won't have a cross (or any other ash shape) on my head but to those of you who do recognize/celebrate/commemorate Lent and to those who think I'm just nuts...Happy Ash Wednesday!
:)

Amen, sista!
You're always good for a good laugh, mindsers!
So what are you giving up this year?
Well this year I'm not giving anything up per say. I'm walking home from work at least three days a week. Nothing huge but it forces me to brave the monster hill and get to know the new neighborhood a little better. :)
